Your rides, visible only to your crew.
Rideout Moto is a ride-coordination app for a private motorcycle crew, built by Louis C. Oberlander / Poolside Studios. Crews are invite-only — you join by invitation, not by searching or browsing a directory.
Crew-only, always. Everything you store in the app — your profile, your rides, your chat — is visible to the members of your crew and to no one else.
Email/password or Sign in with Apple.
You create an account with an email address and password, or with Sign in with Apple. Account creation and sign-in run through Firebase Authentication, a service from Google. We store your email address and an account identifier so the app knows who you are across your devices.
Only what you put in, for your crew's use.
Beyond your account, the app stores the following on our behalf in our own Firebase project:
- Your rider profile — name or nickname, an avatar-size copy of your profile photo, bike details including plate, riding position, and skill level.
- Emergency contact name, phone number, and medical notes — shown only to your crew, for use in a roadside emergency.
- Rides you create or join, including their stops and routes, and your RSVPs.
- Ride chat messages you send.
- Your Full Crew subscription status — when a crew organizer subscribes, our server records the App Store transaction identifier and expiry date with the account, so the crew's plan follows the subscription. Apple handles payment; we never see card or payment details.
- A push-notification token for each device you sign in on.
This data is held by Google Firebase — Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Messaging — inside our own Firebase project. We run no separate servers of our own; Firebase is the infrastructure behind the app, not a third party we hand your data to.
Your ride attachments never leave your device.
The photo you choose for your profile is scaled down to avatar size and stored with your rider profile, so your crew sees it on their devices too. The full-resolution original stays on your device.
Ride attachments such as GPX files stay on your device — they are never uploaded.
Location for maps, not tracking.
Rideout Moto uses your location on-device for maps and route planning. The app has no background location and does not track you or your crew live. Only the stop locations you deliberately add to a ride are saved.
Weather forecasts. To show a ride's forecast, the app asks one of three weather services: the US National Weather Service, MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute), or Apple Weather. You choose in Settings > Weather. Automatic uses the National Weather Service for rides in the United States and MET Norway everywhere else, and MET Norway also fills in for rides further ahead than the National Weather Service forecasts.
What a forecast request contains. Only the location of the ride's meet point, or its first stop, or your crew's default meet point, rounded to about 100 metres. It is the ride's location, never your own. No name, account, crew or ride details are sent. Requests to the National Weather Service and MET Norway also carry the app's name, its version and our support email address, because MET Norway requires every app to identify itself. Like any web request, the service also sees your device's IP address.
What happens to it. Rideout Moto stores nothing from a forecast request, and the request carries nothing that identifies you. The forecast itself is kept only on your device. The National Weather Service is a US government service and MET Norway is based in Norway, so a forecast request can leave the country you are in.
Credits. Weather data from MET Norway is used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence and credited in Settings > Weather. Forecasts from Apple Weather show the Apple Weather mark in the app.
No analytics, no ads, no trackers.
We run no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We do not sell or share your data with third parties beyond the Firebase infrastructure described above, the Apple services built into the app (Sign in with Apple, and Apple Weather when it provides a forecast), and the two public weather services in section 05, the US National Weather Service and MET Norway. Those weather services receive only a rounded ride location and the app's identifying details, as described there.
Exports stay where you put them.
Backups or exports you make from Settings are saved to whatever location you choose on your device or in Files. We don't receive a copy.
Settings > Delete Account.
Go to Settings > Delete Account in the app to remove your account, your profile, your RSVPs, and your crew membership. Rides and chat messages you contributed remain part of your crew's shared history.
If anything changes, you'll know.
If we ever update this privacy policy in a way that affects how your data is handled, we will update this page and revise the effective date at the top.
